Here are some questions that potential candidates for the charityworks programme frequently ask. Please read through the answers and check that you are still happy to proceed with your application.
Q1. When does the Application Process open and close?
The application process is open from the 1st February 2011, all completed application forms and online tests MUST be completed by 5pm on the 16th April 2012.
Q2. What are the Working Hours?
Although hours will vary according to the nature of the charity business we anticipate normal office hours 9-5pm with reasonable flexibility.
Q3. As a graduate trainee, would I be paid?
Yes, for the 2012-13 programme the salary level is £15,000 per annum.
Q4. What will the holiday entitlement be?
We are offering 28 days which includes bank holidays. Annual Leave will be spread evenly over the placements.
Q5. Could my graduation date affect my application?
No, as long as you have at least an actual or predicted 2:1 degree or higher the year does
not matter.
Q6. Do you have to have experience volunteering or working in a charity or non
profit organisation?
Yes, applicants need to have some form of experience of volunteering or working in the charity/not for profit sector. This may include unpaid caring responsibilities within your home environment.
Q7. Where will I be based?
The majority of the partner charities are based in London, and the likelihood is that you will be placed there. Having said that there are placements outside London, for example this year we have placed trainees in Oxfordshire, Lincolnshire and Shropshire.
Q8. How long will I spend with each charity?
You may be placed with a charity for 12 months or have two 6 month placements with
different charities.
Q9. What will I be doing on a day to day basis when working on placement in each charity?
Graduate Trainees are placed in a variety of positions based on current organisational need within each charity. As a result, you should expect a variety of responsibilities; current placements vary and include HR roles, business development, fundraising, operational, strategic and policy work.
Q10. How long is the programme?
The programme runs for 12 months from 1st September.
Q11. Will I have a guaranteed job at the end of the programme?
No, we hope that successful graduates will apply for jobs within one of our sponsor charities at the end of the programme but we cannot guarantee a job. In June 2013 Charityworks will support charities to recruit from the 2012/13 talent pool by promoting job opportunities.
Q12. What is the application process?
Once we have received your completed application form we ask you to take two psychometric tests. We ask that you complete them one at a time, if you do not reach the target score in the first test you will not be asked to complete the second. If you are successful during the testing stage and reach our target score you will be placed on our shortlist. Shortlisting takes place during the last week of May and you will be informed by the 27th May if you have been successful during this stage. Successful candidates will be asked to attend one of our Assessment centres during the first two weeks of June.
Please confirm you are available to attend assessment centres on the following dates: 19/20/21 June and the 26/27/28 June for final interviews.
